I think much has to do with culture, setting, ability, and what length a congregation is accustomed to hearing (I'm re-reading Christ-Centered Preaching and Bryan Chapell pretty much says the same thing, although he assumes most sermons will be about 30 minutes).
For me to preach a 50-60 minute sermon to a church that is accustomed to 30-minute sermons would not be serving that church very well. It might even be sinful on my part - depending on my motivation.

I read that too. I noticed I'm on the lower echelon of the time frame he finds acceptable :)
It's rare I preach over 35 mins. I guess I have work to do still!
