Sunday is Coming

Sorry I'm not much help on the age of the earth question.

Here is a great article I found for pastors about how quick Sunday comes each week. He has some good suggestions for beginning sermon preparation on Monday.

I agree that some of these ideas are good (I think watching Sunday Night football on Sunday evenings after preaching helps me tremendously!) But I wouldn't recommend listening to others' sermons on your text until you've actually done your own exegetical work and put together your own outline. When we start with the thoughts of others, I think we become more prone to writing messages that are more imitative than original. I would recommend reading and listening to others sermons towards the end of the week, when most of the sermon prep is already done. By that point, the message is substantially your own.

Oh - and I also have found it very helpful to plan my sermons well in advance - even outlines. Monday doesn't seem so threatening when you already have an outline written.

(JC - don't you take Mondays off? What kind of sermon prep do you do on Mondays? Just meditation on the text throughout the day, perhaps?)

Nothing on Mondays. Just time with the family. Tuesday is my Monday. Sunday does come very quick.
Tuesday and most of Wednesday is spent doing administrative work.
