Jim, are you being serious or sarcastic? I can't tell. In my opinion, James Merritt is a good guy who in this case is making a mistake - helping preachers to be lazy. The pastor's primary responsibility is to be on his face before God, wrestling with the Word through prayer and meditation, seeking to see its truth, its glory, and its application. Of course, there is a place for gaining insight, ideas, and inspiration from commentaries, other pastors, etc., but I fear that some may simply take Dr. Merritt's message and neglect all of that vital work that a pastor should do. Power in the pulpit does not come from repeating someone else's message, but from having experienced the power of God in a particular text on yourself and desiring passionately to share the glory of that text with your congregation.
Do you guys agree, or am I off base here?
